How an activated sludge process gets better
Using the example of the Macher treatment plant:
Diagnosis
The initial diagnosis by the VTA biological department showed only floc decomposition under the microscope. The major portion of the activated sludge consisted of thick, long filaments of the filamentous bacteria type 021N and other industrial filaments. Because of the extreme stringiness and a much-enlarged floc volume, settling of the floc was simply impossible.
Treatment
Just a few days after the start of VTA dosing, there was a marked reduction in stringiness. But the occurrence of filamentous bacteria wasn’t the only thing that was reduced: thanks to VTA Biokat®, the useful floc bacteria also recovered quickly, significantly strengthening floc cohesion.
OUTCOME
With VTA dosage: The floc bacteria recovered and regenerated perfectly. Floc size and structure are again stable and compact. The treatment plant is running smoothly again.
