The Hydropower plant, which is due to go into operation in Kitzbühel in autumn 2025, uses state-of-the-art technology to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of wastewater treatment.

At the official launch on 16 October 2024 at the Hotel Grand Tirolia Kitzbühel, the founder of VTA, Ing. Mag. DDr. h.c. Ulrich Kubinger, together with his daughter Marlen Kubinger and Kitzbühel's mayor Dr Klaus Winkler, gave the starting signal for the ‘Green Deal by VTA’ project.

"Climate hero" is to transform the Kitzbühel sewage treatment plant into an energy self-sufficient facility that operates without the use of external chemicals and at the same time contributes to C02 reduction. Kitzbühel, known worldwide for the Hahnenkamm race, has special requirements for its infrastructure due to the peaks in water volumes.

Advanced VTA technologies

The new plant is based on the VTA Liquid Engineering process, which enables the wastewater treatment plant not only to cover its own energy requirements, but also to reduce transport routes.

This lowers energy costs and reduces the environmental impact - a combination that makes the wastewater treatment plant in Kitzbühel a ‘climate hero’. VTA-Hydropower combines the advantages of energy self-sufficiency with the use of sustainable processes and thus aims to raise awareness of resource-saving technologies in the municipal sector. Expansion to European municipalities is already being planned.
